PGDM-IEV: A NEW PARADIGM IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION

Entrepreneurship is being given a big boost by the Government and private players alike. However, student innovators face a dilemma after their degree. They have to choose between pursuing their dream of starting their own venture or go for higher education. Colleges with Entrepreneur Development Cells regularly witness budding entrepreneurs giving up on their ideas and opting for MBA/PGDM. Usually the spark subsides during the 2 years and the student joins the workforce as an employee.

Obviously, a lot of entrepreneurial talent is being lost as a consequence of having to choose. It is high time students had an opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds. The pursuit of a qualification should not stop their entrepreneurial venture. Giving them an opportunity to incubate their business idea while earning a PGDM would ensure that students with an entrepreneurial mindset would not have to put their dreams on a backburner, only to be forgotten later.

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Govt of India has recognised the need for Business Schools in Entrepreneurship to provide a strong institutionalised, structured foundation to start-ups. The AICTE has handpicked 4 Institutions across the country to launch the PDGM -IEV (Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Venture Development) course in September 2019. The Institutes have been selected based on their strong infrastructure, incubation facilities, mentor networks and track record in promoting entrepreneurship. SRiX School of Entrepreneurship, Warangal (www.srixsoe.edu.in) is one of the chosen Institutes. The course will enable students to incubate their idea/start-up and complete their PGDM as well in a 2-year timeframe.

The course strength will be limited to 30 seats per year, and the experiential curriculum will be Capstone projects and Action Learning Segments based. Less than 30% time will be spent in classroom teaching. The faculty will consist of industry experts and accomplished mentors. The course has provision for seed funding and immersion in US/UK incubators. The participants will pass out with an established start-up and a powerful PDGM.

Candidates who are qualified in ICET, CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT and similar CETs are eligible for direct admission.

This initiative by the AICTE will usher in a new paradigm in the promotion of Entrepreneurship in the country.
